The world of travel is no stranger to buzzwords, whether it’s practising proper jettiquette in the air or sleeping in a floatel out on the open seas.
Being a travel agent means you have to up to date with the so-hot-right-now travel trends. So, if you want to work in travel, jump on the buzzword bandwagon and add these 12 new-fangled phrases to your repertoire.
Babymoon – a last-chance holiday for expectant parents before D-day, usually involving lots of pampering for the baby mama.
Bleisure – combining a business trip with a holiday. Gotta take the opportunity when it’s there!
Brocation – the male equivalent of a girls’ getaway, full of manly bonding between ‘bros’. Matching Bintang singlets, anyone?
Buddymoon – a honeymoon turned all-in holiday, where friends and family share the travel experience with the newlyweds. Three's a crowd but four or more is a party!
Daycation – a one-day holiday. Better than nothing, right?
Flashpacking – being a backpacker in ethos, but with a much more substantial budget for nicer dorm rooms and soap.
Glamping – foregoing the traditional notion of ‘roughing it’ for eco-chic tents with indoor plumping, plush bedding and even a personal chef.
Minimoon – a scaled-down holiday after the “I dos” where the happy couple choose to save their funds for a grand getaway or big purchase later on.
Set-jetting – visiting locations as seen in movies or television shows, such as Dubrovnik (the backdrop for Kings Landing in Game of Thrones).
Spafari – a luxe spin on the traditional safari, with lodgings that come with menu of pampering spa treatments so you can spot Zebra from the tub.
Staycation – becoming a tourist in your own city and enjoying what your home base has to offer. This can include booking a hotel that offers a locals' discount.
Voluntourism – combining a holiday with volunteer or charitable work, often in developing nations in Africa, Asia or South America.
