After travelling through South America, Cheryl decided she wanted to pursue a career in travel. Instead of jumping right in, Cheryl decided to enrol in the Diploma of Travel and Tourism, knowing that a higher education qualification could give her the knowledge and skills she needed to succeed!
I was looking at creating my own women's only travel company after trekking through South America. An advertisement popped up on my Instagram and with the qualifications on offer, I knew this was what I wanted to do.
Definitely the tertiary qualification on offer, and the broad diverse pathways that the curriculum could achieve, and the affiliation with such a strong brand such as Flight Centre ultimately drove my decision.
I loved learning to research travel data and reports, and the satisfaction of achieving great results, while learning about the travel industry.
I found the team presentations and assignments difficult due to other students being located in different area's, however digital media tools, such as face-time, closed that gap.
After spending almost a year at Flight Centre Travel Academy, I was impressed by the Flight Centre Travel Group's strong sense of people, fun, and culture - so I changed tack. With encouragement from my trainers, I applied and was selected to be trained as a travel consultant. I am now working in the Noosa Village Flight Centre store!
If you are outgoing and are looking at getting involved in the travel industry, this course will open your eyes to the opportunities and wide range of avenues available in the industry!
