Subject Series #4 Travel Systems Essentials

In this series, we take a closer look at some of the subjects covered in the Diploma of Travel and Tourism. We asked our students a few questions about their experience.
Subject Series #4 Travel Systems Essentials
In this subject students will be introduced to a Travel Reservations System used by airlines and travel agents throughout the world. Students will be learning on live systems, trained by industry professionals. In particular, students will learn how the effective use of the Travel Reservation System (TRS) can contribute to the overall guest experience through the various functions within it.
What is the most interesting thing you have learnt in this subject?
Claudia: How the booking system Sabre words and how the use of GDS can help travel agents.
Teȧ: How to use the Sabre system to make a booking - I felt like a real travel agent!
Kathryn: Using the travel systems - it's really setting us up for future travel roles.
Elise: Learning more about future technologies and things that use big data and AI.
What did you love about this subject?
Claudia: I loved being able to experience what is would be like to make a booking for a customer through SABRE - from flights all the way through to car hire.
Teȧ: The entire classroom experience. The lecturers are helpful, the students are friendly and I feel so fancy walking into the Flight Centre Head Office everyday!
Kathryn: How real life the teaching is - we are actually learning what you do on the job and how to do it!
Morgan: I loved the people I met. We had such an amazing team.
Elise: The amount of interaction and class discussion.
Why do you think this subject will benefit you when working in a travel role?
Teȧ: I would have already learnt about travel systems and how to use them, which gives me the extra advantage and confidence over other applicants.
Kerri: Knowing how to help people plan a vacation - from start to finish.
Morgan: To go far in the industry, you have to know as much as you can about travel systems.
Alice: I think this subject will give me a head start in the industry and I will know people before starting.
Maddison: This subject gives us a headstart in the training process and general knowledge of the industry.
Do you think it is worth doing a travel course?
Claudia: Yes, I think it is worth it to get a step ahead and have more of an understanding of the processes involved in this industry.
Teȧ: Absolutely! If you are passionate about it! I don't regret it at all.
Kerri: Yes! It was exciting to learn how the future of travel is changing with modern technology.
Kristen: YES! It gives you an understanding of what is happening in the industry, where it started and where it's going.
Alice: 100%. I have learnt so much that will help me in the future.
